We are proud to announce that our very own Dr. Jason Friedrichs is now a member of the Board of Directors for the Florida Lions Eye Clinic, an organization committed to providing care to underserved Floridians. What an honor!
“Growing up with a blind father made me realize just how important sight and good vision is to a person’s quality of life,” Dr. Friedrichs said. “Nothing is more precious than the gift of sight. Our vision impacts every aspect of our lives.”
As a Board-Certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Friedrichs’ areas of expertise include refractive surgery for cataracts, glaucoma treatments and blepharoplasty – a delicate eyelid procedure requiring impressive skill and expertise. He also has considerable experience in comprehensive eye care, including management and surgical treatment of glaucoma, diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration. We are certain that his extensive training and experience will be an asset to the board as they chart the course of the clinic moving forward.
What is The Florida Lions Eye Clinic?
The Florida Lions Eye Clinic is a nonprofit clinic that provides exemplary and comprehensive eye care for those who cannot afford vision services. FLLEC’s mission is to provide state-of-the-art medical and surgical eye care that is accessible to underserved individuals in Florida.
Like most nonprofits, the Florida Lions Eye Clinic relies heavily on volunteers to help the underserved in our community prevent blindness. More information about the Florida Lions Eye Clinic and its vision is available at fllec.org.
“I’ve always been involved with the Lions Club,” Dr. Friedrichs explained. “When I started my practice in Illinois more than 15 years ago, I volunteered with the Lions Club there. When I joined Dr. Collins’ office, they were already doing volunteer surgeries and exams for the Lions Club. Collins Vision has a long tradition of giving back to the community.”
After earning his medical degree in 2004 from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford, Dr. Friedrichs completed his residency at the renowned University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology in 2008. He spent 12 years operating a solo practice in the midwest before moving to Fort Myers in 2020.
“I’ve always liked gadgets,” said Dr. Friedrichs. “I love micro-surgery! No matter what I’m doing in ophthalmology, it never becomes monotonous because of my Dad. I love what I do every day. I am thankful to be able to help individuals and families without resources who need eye care,” Dr. Friedrichs concluded. “Our vision impacts every aspect of our lives.”
Collins Vision is proud to have doctors that share our passion for giving back to the community! We know that Dr. Friedrichs will continue to be a great blessing to the community of Southwest Florida, both in his capacity here at Collins Vision, and as a board member for the Florida Lions Eye Clinic.
