When Dr. Michael J. Collins opened the doors to Collins Vision back in 2004, it was with a vision to do things a little differently than other eye care practices. Deeply committed to personalized, compassionate care, the latest proven technology, with a focus on family and community, Collins Vision started small but quickly grew.
Dr. Collins recently sat down and shared about the history of Collins Vision, the pillars the practice is built on as well as some of his favorite moments and milestones over the last 20 years of helping Southwest Floridians to See the Difference.

“When I decided to go out on my own, I wanted to provide the people in this area the best; the best technology, the best surgery and just the best experience,” said Dr. Collins. “Today, Collins Vision has three thriving locations, in Fort Myers, Naples and Punta Gorda, and 2024 marks our 20th anniversary in Southwest Florida.”
“I’m proud that we have been able to bring world-class eye care to this area because I don’t think it really existed before,” he added. “There were, of course, many good surgeons, but my fellowship training in cornea and refractive surgery really set Collins Vision apart. I brought world-class refractive surgery to Southwest Florida.”

When asked what has been the key to Collins Vision’s success over the years, Dr. Collins talked about his team’s unwavering commitment to patient experience. “Regardless of what the competition may be doing and a trend toward consolidating practices, we have remained focused on our core commitment to a personalized, top-notch patient experience for every patient every day,” said Dr. Collins.
Leadership
When it was time to bring in a partner to help the practice expand its services and their reach in the surrounding communities, Dr. Jason Friedrichs was the obvious choice. “He brought in tremendous experience with retina and blepharoplasty but also has the skill set for the refractive procedures,” said Dr. Collins. “But even more importantly, he shares our practice philosophy and our patients love him.” Dr. Friedrichs sees patients in Naples and Punta Gorda.
