LASIK Offers a Clear View During the Pandemic

by Jill Tanner, RN, MSN, NP-C

This year has certainly proven to be a challenging one as we continue to navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic. As the cases of COVID-19 continue to fluctuate across the state and the nation, wearing a mask does not seem to be something we will forgo any time soon. While we focus on the health of our nation and hopefully returning to some “normalcy”, this may be the perfect time to consider a “clear view” with the help of Laser Vision Correction (LVC) at Collins Vision

The Fog Bog

While glasses do their job to improve vision, wearing them during this pandemic may prove to be less than desirable at times. If you wear glasses, you’re all too familiar with the need to adjust your mask and glasses to prevent fogging or an obstructed view. What a pain!

How Clean Are Your Hands?

Some individuals may prefer switching to contacts in order to provide a wider visual access and freedom from glasses. But just like glasses, contacts come with their own set of hassles. In order to place and remove contacts at the beginning and end of your day, you need to use your fingers. This can lead to trapped dirt and debris underneath the lens if proper hand washing is not performed.

Most contacts are made to be worn during the day; however, some individuals may forget to remove them at bedtime, which can put them at an increased risk of an eye infection. A small tear in your contacts can cause irritation and may lead to an abrasion to the clear surface of the eye, called the cornea.

LASIK Offers Freedom

What if you no longer had to wear glasses or contacts?  Wouldn’t it be amazing to wear a mask without your lenses fogging up or if you could avoid the hassle and cost of having to buy contacts and solution over and over, year over year?  If this sounds great to you, then you may be a candidate for LVC.

The most common LVC procedures we perform at Collins Vision are LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) and ASA (Advanced Surface Ablation). These procedures are low risk and can be completed in minutes. Not sure if you’re a candidate? Our quick and easy LASIK self-test can help.
