Don and Kathy Collins Vision Cataract Surgery Patients

Don and Kathy O’Toole had been traveling to Southwest Florida to escape the chilly New York winters for 15 years when they decided it was time to make Naples, Florida their permanent home. The two enjoy walking, dining out and spending time at the beach. So when Kathy, a registered nurse, began noticing that it was getting harder to drive at night and her vision just wasn’t as sharp as it used to be – even when she had her vision prescription changed – she knew it was time to have her eyes evaluated for cataracts.

Kathy’s Story

She went to a large ophthalmology practice in the area but didn’t have a great experience. “I just wasn’t satisfied with the answers I was given and I was there for over four hours!” Kathy regrouped and made an appointment at Collins Vision. What a difference!

Kathy knew right away she had made the right choice in calling Collins Vision. Dr. Michael J. Collins met with her and took all the time she needed to answer her questions and hear about her concerns. Kathy has an autoimmune condition that causes her to have dry eyes. Dr. Collins assured her they would treat her Dry Eye first and then tackle the cataract surgery.

Kathy opted for refractive cataract surgery with a premium lens and today, her vision is better than ever. “Everything went so well with my procedure,” said Kathy. “It was an all-around great experience. I don’t have to wear prescription glasses at all anymore, even for driving at night!”

Don’s Story

Fast forward two years and now it was Don’s turn for cataract surgery. He woke up one day and, quite suddenly, everything looked dull and blurry. After meeting with Dr. Jason Friedrichs at the Naples location of Collins Vision, Don felt confident in scheduling his surgery.

As someone living with a heart condition and diabetes, Don felt reassured, knowing Dr. Friedrichs was looking at more than just his eyes. “He was extremely thorough and took my overall health into consideration at all my pre- and post-op appointments.”

Like Kathy, Don chose a premium lens and he couldn’t be happier. “I have been more than pleasantly surprised at my vision after cataract surgery,” he said. “We are able to do the things we enjoy so much more easily after cataract surgery.”
