When William Johnson retired from teaching and moved to Florida in 2020, he began the process of finding new healthcare providers in his new home state. During this season, he found out from the eye doctor a friend had recommended to him that he needed cataract surgery. So he scheduled an appointment to have a cataract evaluation.

On the day of his evaluation and testing, William was kept waiting for hours with little to no explanation. With every new test, he was moved from one waiting area to another. When he finally saw the surgeon who would perform the procedure, he spent less than five minutes with William and was back out the door. By the time William was finished and leaving five hours later, the office was closed for the day. “It was a very frustrating experience,” said William.

The next morning, William was reading the newspaper and saw an ad for Collins Vision. He decided to give them a call. That one phone call changed everything.

“From the moment I walked into the Collins Vision office in Fort Myers, the experience was completely different in the best way,” said William. “Every member of the team is polite, friendly, transparent and responsive. I just can’t think of enough good adjectives to describe them!”

William went through all the cataract evaluation testing again, but this time, he was in and out in 45 minutes. “When I met Dr. Collins, he put everything in layman’s terms and made sure I understood my options. No one pressured me and let me tell you, the actual surgery was not even one penny over what they estimated it would be.”

Renewed Vision and No More Contacts

William is quick to admit his pre-cataract surgery vision was bad. He wore monovision contacts, meaning one eye was corrected for near vision and the other for distance. “My eyes were pretty messed up,” he said. “Even with my contacts in, I struggled.”

But today, post cataract surgery at Collins Vision, William no longer needs his contacts and can read the newspaper with ease. He only occasionally has to wear his reading glasses in low-light settings.

“I recommend Collins Vision to all my friends now,” said William. “Before I went into education, I was a restaurateur for 25 years. I understand the importance of hospitality and Collins Vision has got it. I had an amazing experience from start to finish.”
